Motherwell 1-1 Celtic

Craig Beattie's late equaliser tonight, ensured Celtic of an unbeaten away season.

In an exciting game, Motherwell took the lead on 65 minutes, through Clarkston. Craig Beattie netted Celtic's equaliser 10 minutes from time.

If any of the crowd were expecting an end of season kickabout they were wrong. Martin O'Neill's side had eight changes from the team who defeated Rangers on Saturday. In came Stephen McManus, Liam Miller, Ross Wallace, Jamie Smith, Johan Mjallby, Paul Lambert, Aiden McGeady and goalscorer Craig Beattie. Neil Lennon lined up in defence and was solid as a rock as usual.

Motherwell had the ball in the net midway through the first half, but the goal was rightly chopped off for offside.

There were not many chances in the first half, though Craig Beattie did come close.

The youth of Motherwell were out in force in the stands, showing exactly why neds are not welcome in society. Stephen Pearson was subjected to a torrent of abuse for the crime of fullfilling his lifelong ambition.

The second half was a fiery affair, and it all began when Liam Miller started putting the boot in - something he has been shying away from in recent games.

The atmosphere began to get louder inside the dump that is Fir Park, and the home support spurred their team on. Motherwell got the opener through David Clarkston.

The goal seemed to waken the Celtic players and support, and The Champions' B-Side began to show some signs of hope. Aiden McGeady passed up two good chances to score, showing that the experience which he needs is just not there yet. However, it will come soon.

Thankfully, it was Craig Beattie who got Celtic level. Beattie has been playing his heart out all season, and tonight was his first team goal. Hopefully it will be the first of many. Ross Wallace, who outshone Jamie Smith is so many ways, put in a superb cross, for the big striker to head home.

The Celtic support were now in full voice - letting everyone know exactly who the Champions are, and how easy it was.

Both Motherwell and Celtic pressed for a winner but it wasn't to be. A 1-1 draw was a fair result, and completes an unbeaten away season for The Celts.

With tackles flying in everywhere tonight, a Celtic player could easily have picked up an injury. Thankfully, no one did, and Celts can now look forward to our last SPL game of the season on Sunday, before heading to Hampden.

Oh and by the way, the mini-huns beat the big-huns tonight, so Celtic are now 17 points ahead in the league!

Celtic:
Marshall - 8
Mjallby - 7
Lennon - 8
McManus - 8
Smith - 6
Wallace - 8
Lambert - 8
Miller - 7
Pearson - 9
McGeady - 8
Beattie - 9

Celtic-Mad Man of the Match: Craig Beattie

Celtic-Mad Moment to Remember: The late chorus of 'We Shall Not Be Moved' - just a reminder!

Celtic-Mad Moment to Forget: The Motherwell support, who will be back at school tomorrow telling their mates how they "shouted heavy abuse at the Cellic players, quality man!"
