McManus Injury Causes Concern as Media Spin States Mick Is Out of the Run In.

The news that Celtic Captain Stephen McManus has picked up another injury is bad news for any Celtic fan. Whether you are a fan of the affable centre half or not the disruption caused as a result of losing any player at this stage of the season is tangible.

This concern is further exacerbated when you turn on the computer of a morning and see the headlines in the Sunday Mason stating that Mick could be out for the season.

As you open the relevant page on the papers site you expect to see quotes of concern from Club officials stating fears about the injury that saw the player substituted during yesterday's excellent comeback win against Aberdeen at Pittodrie.

Surprisingly (or not when you see that Mark "I used to be a Tim but I now know my place" Guidi), there is very little substance in Scoop's claim that Mick may miss the rest of the season with an ankle knock.

Whilst it remains to be seen whether or not he can return from this in time to lead the Hoops to four in a row, such scurrilous panic mongering has no place in journalism..

Here is what Gordon Strachan had to say on the matter.

"Big Mick has had ankle problems but this time it's his knee. We'll assess the damage but I'd imagine he will be a concern for the Rangers game."

The Ginger Genius was pleased with his side's comeback win at Pittodrie and said:

"Our tackling, heading and discipline wasn't good enough in the first half.

We reorganised at half-time and the energy my players showed after that was fantastic."

It certainly was Gordon. I was impressed with the guile that Celtic displayed to turn a one goal deficit round in an away match. Even more impressive was the commitment shown by Gary Caldwell to score Celtic's equaliser, putting his entire body on the line as an Aberdeen defender attempted to take him out of the game with a callous body check.

This was made all the more gallant by the fact that Big Jan was attempting to meet the same ball with an overhead kick! Well done Gary!

Yours in Celtic
