Livingston 1-3 Celtic

Celtic yesterday set up a Scottish Cup Final with either Dunfermline or Inverness Caledonian Thistle, after a 3-1 victory over Livingston at Hampden. Dunfermline and Inverness will replay their semi-final tie after a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

Henrik Larsson and Chris Sutton were Celtic's goalscorers, Sutton bagged a double but limped off with 20 minutes to go. It was originally feared that he would miss the trip to Villarreal on Wednesday but announced today that he would "walk through a brick wall" to play in the game.

There was a fairly large Celtic crowd at Hampden, around 20,000 made the trip during this expensive period to be a Celtic fan.

Livvy started off on the offensive, but only threatened once in the opening period, Derek Lilley forced young David Marshall into what looked a fairly routine save.

Joos Valgaeren was the only player who was absent on Thursday night, he replaced Jackie McNamara, who is shaking off a knock. Valgaeren struggled against Livvy's quick forwards, and is clearly short of match fitness.

Celts started off slow but soon got into the game. As the rain began to pour down on Hampden, Chris Sutton grabbed the game's opener. Henrik Larsson crossed for Stan Petrov, who unselfishly cushioned the ball for Sutton to net.

It was a lead from which Celtic never looked back. The rest of the game was somewhat of a cruise for the Champions Elect, who are now on course for at least a domestic double.

The second half was played at a pace which Celtic dictated, and there was no real danger of a Livingston revival.

Alan Thompson also limped off injured and was replaced by Liam Miller. Miller is beginning to show the Celtic support what we will miss when he leaves for Manchester United in the summer. He has put in some fine performances recently, anyone who attempts to boo him is an idiot.

Henrik Larsson doubled Celtic's lead on 50 minutes. The SuperSwede pounced on a short backpass and cooly chipped the ball over Roddy McKenzie.

Sutton made sure of The Hoops' progression to the final in May, with a 64th minute tap-in, following a neat passage of play.

A decent performance was what Celtic needed prior to the Villarreal second leg during the week. In truth, yesterday's second half was a canter, albeit Livingston had a short spell of pressure. Livvy managed to grab a late consolation during this period as Celtic seemed to neglect their defensive duties.

Yesterday's victory ensures a Scottish Cup Final date for The Celts, and sets us up nicely for our trip to Espana on Wednesday.
