Celtic enjoyed the perfect preparation for Wednesday's Champions League clash against Lyon with a convincing win.

Second-half goals from Chris Sutton and Alan Thompson secured the points but had Henrik Larsson been more lethal in front of goal, Celtic would have won by a greater margin.

Celtic were back along more familiar lines after playing virtually a reserve side in the midweek League Cup win over Partick Thistle.

Martin O'Neill's side dominated from the start. Larsson shot wildly early on after being put through by Sutton and then Jackie McNamara forced a fine save from Roddy McKenzie with a rising shot, again after Sutton assisted.

A powerful run from Thompson then set up a chance for Larsson and, although the Swede's shot beat McKenzie, David McNamee was on hand to thump the ball off the line.

Larsson clearly looked in the mood and was just inches away with a right-foot shot from the corner of the Livingston penalty area.

Bobo Balde then saw a header hit the side-netting and it seemed only a matter of time before the goal would come.

Larsson and Thompson both fired free-kicks well over before Livingston finally responded.

A Jamie McAllister free-kick from all of 30 yards had Magnus Hedman in trouble but the goalkeeper managed to get the vital touch to tip it over the top.

The breakthrough for Celtic came after 48 minutes when Thompson fed Sutton and the striker turned before crashing a low shot past McKenzie.

Larsson was denied a second by McKenzie shortly afterwards as Livi were put under more pressure.

The clinching goal came six minutes from time when Thompson scored with a terrific left-foot volley after Marvin Andrews had headed the ball out.

The game ended on a sour note with McNamara going off with what looked like a serious arm injury which makes him doubtful for midweek.
