Celtic returned to winning ways in the SPL with a comfortable victory over a poor Dunfermline side.

After last week's draw with Hibs and with a Champions League match against AC Milan looming in midweek, Celtic boss Martin O'Neill no doubt wanted victory secured early.

His players did not disappoint him, with Stanislav Varga and Henri Camara putting the Bhoys two ahead by the break and Camara adding a third in the second half to wrap up the points.

Whether such an easy stroll against a lacklustre Dunfermline team will be adequate preparation for the might of AC Milan remains to be seen.

Celtic pushed forward from the start and from Alan Thompson's pass, Stilian Petrov's volley drifted inches wide of the far post, with keeper Derek Stillie rooted to his line.

Juninho then surged forward from the halfway line, before firing in a 25-yard shot which was just off target.

The visitors suffered an early setback, when Gary Mason had to limp off, with Aaron Labonte deputising.

John Hartson was making life difficult for Andrius Skerla in the Dunfermline defence and, after winning yet another corner, the home side took the lead.

From Thompson's in swinging corner Momo Sylla, on the corner of the six-yard box, glanced his header goalwards and Varga duly applied the finishing touch from close range.

Stillie then raced outside his box to head clear, but when Thompson quickly transferred the ball to Juninho, the Brazilian's effort was just too high as the keeper scrambled back.

Craig Brewster volleyed narrowly wide a rare Dunfermline's foray into Celtic's half. Camara then took advantage of some slack defending, in the visitors defence, to reach Hartson's header first, but Stillie got down well at his near post to block.

Camara was more successful with his next attempt. After Juninho was fouled, Thompson's accurate free-kick was headed against the keeper's legs, before the striker reacted first to head home the rebound.

The home side were in total control by this stage and, from Sylla's chip to the far post, Hartson was unlucky to see his header strike the bar.

Dunfermline sent on Noel Hunt for Darren Young at the start of the second half in an attempt to take the game more to Celtic, but it was Thompson's snap shot which reminded the visitors what an uphill battle they faced.

Brewster tried hard to rally his team but he saw a shot was blocked and then another on the turn was held by keeper David Marshall.

Petrov went off on a tricky run which ended up with him skipping past Stillie, but his cut back failed to find a team-mate.

Celtic went three ahead after a tremendous scramble in the Dunfermline penalty area.

From Thompson's cross Skerla appeared to head against his own bar, and after Hartson and Varga saw shots blocked, the ball fell to Camara who threaded his shot home through a maze of bodies.

When Billy Mehmet carelessly gave away possession Camara advanced into the box, in search of his hat-trick, but his cross-shot drifted narrowly wide.

Dunfermline nearly scored a consolation goal when Hunt's header reached Brewster, but his powerful volley from eight yards, was smothered by Marshall.

After that it was really a matter of how many goals Celtic wanted to win by.

Ross Wallace was sent on for the last half hour and with any luck the winger could have easily had a hat-trick.

From one run Stillie did well to block his shot at the near post and then, after some superb skill in the box, the winger's shot hit the post.

Camara also came close to getting his hat-trick, but from Thompson's pass, his shot came back off the woodwork.

Stillie also did well to keep out a stinging Thompson free-kick and made a superb save from Sylla, before Scott Wilson completed the clearance off his own line.

In the end, the home side had to settle for just three goals in a one-sided match.

Man of the Match: Henri Camara The on-loan Wolves striker scored twice and was unlucky not to grab the hat-trick he deserved.
