Dunfermline 0-2 Celtic

Celtic returned to the top of the SPL this evening, after defeating Dunfermline 2-0 on East End Park's plastic pitch. Chris Sutton and Stan Petrov both netted in the first half to secure the three points for Celtic.

It was a convincing display from The Hoops, enough was done in the first half to allow a stroll in the second. We had a goal wrongly disallowed and a penalty denied by Mr Dallas, but we gladly took the three points home, and we now sit top of the pile once again.

Celtic started with the same eleven who drew with AC Milan midweek and there appeared to be a swagger and look of confidence when the team emerged. Surely we will be boosted by drawing Rangers in the Scottish Cup Third Round, but sadenned when news emerged today that Neil Lennon will miss the match through suspension.

Dunfermline had the first of the chances, when Barry Nicholson passed up an opportunity to open the scoring for the home side. Celtic, playing in their away strip, retaliated quickly, but were denied by two good saves from Derek Stillie, from John Hartson and Stan Petrov shots.

On 16 minutes, Chris Sutton opened the scoring. A superb Stan Petrov corner was met by Sutton's head, and Celtic were one up.

Celts were in control of the game and it was only a matter of time before the second goal arrived. It came just after the half hour mark, Stan Petrov striking an unstopppable effort to double Celtic's lead.

Bobo Balde came close to adding another, but the scoreline remained the same at the interval.

In the second half, Magnus Hedman pulled off two decent stops early on, to deny Dunfermline a goal. At the other end, John Hartson came agonisingly close to adding another Celtic goal, but his shot rattled off the underside of the Dunfermline crossbar.

Hartson was once again unlucky with 20 minutes remaining, when he saw his goal disallowed for handball. Hartson couldn't have done anything about it and the goal should have stood.

The game ended 2-0, a scoreline which we were disappointed not to have added to, but nevertheless, the three points were priceless and we can now relax for another week at least.

We played well today. Aiden McGeady, John Hartson and Stan Petrov were the stand-out performers, and Alan Thompson seemed to return to the form we have seen him hit in recent seasons. Keep it up Alan.

We have a free week before Dundee United come to Celtic Park on Saturday. This will give the players a well earned rest, setting us up for a busy Christmas period.
