Dundee 2-2 Celtic

Celtic have fallen to second place in the SPL after a garbage display at Dens Park today, resulting in a 2-2 draw with Dundee. With Rangers scraping past Hearts at Ibrox 3-2, Celtic are now one point behind in the title race.

Wednesday's superb display in the Nou Camp made today's performance seem even worse. This week we had a look at what we are capable of achieving, and a look at the lows we can hit.

Today we were rubbish. Only one player, Stephen Pearson, received pass marks for his performance - the rest were very average. Too many players are prepared to take the plaudits for performances in the big games, but are not giving it their all in fixtures like today.

With Alan Thompson and Chris Sutton suspended, and Stan Varga injured, there were starting places for Stephen Pearson, Aiden McGeady and Henri Camara. Magnus Hedman kept his place in goal.

Celtic appeared tired from the beginning and only conjured up a few half chances in the first half. Henri Camara and John Hartson came close but not quite close enough.

Dundee took the lead on 34 minutes, when former Celt took Joos Valgaeren out of the game with a fine pass, which was latched onto by Steve Lovell, who placed the ball past the helpless Hedman in the Celtic goal.

A reminder that prior to today's game, Dundee lay rock bottom of the SPL. They were obviously fired up for the match but come on, we are talking about a team who had only won four of their last seventeen games here, and we were struggling badly.

Stephen Pearson has been missing from the Celtic side for most of the season, and was obviously been challenged with a point to prove today. He done well in Celtic's equaliser, crossing the ball across the face of goal, only to be missed by John Hartson, but Henri Camara was there at the back post to stick the ball away.

Against the run of play, Celtic went ahead ten minutes later, through Nou Camp hero John Hartson. Moments after the big Welshman had saw his goal chopped off for an alleged offside, Aiden McGeady assisted the striker in getting his own back; crossing for Hartson to tap home from close range.

We all thought that we would hold on to our lead, and hopefully grab another to seal the victory, but our defence were up to their old tricks once again. We were warned not long after Hartson's goal when Lovell had a goal chopped off for handball and it wasn't long before Dundee levelled the scoring.

I have to ask, what is going on with our defence? We are gifting teams opportunities to score every single game and the defence looks nothing like the solid unit we have had at the back for the past few seasons. It was another comedy show for Dundee's equaliser, involving Balde, Valgaeren and Hedman. There is obviously a serious lack of communication at the back and the players do not look comfortable at all. Steve Lovell was again the goalscorer as the heads in the Celtic camp went down.

Dundee survived Celtic's attempts for a late winner, as Camara came close in the dying minutes. News filtered through that Rangers had taken the lead at Ibrox and we now find ourselves second in the SPL table.

A few things about today; our players lacked the passion and fight which was needed to win the game. Dundee deserved the draw and fair play to them. Henri Camara shows no heart up-front, and I hate to dwell on the past but certain strikers we have had recently put in double the effort that Camara does.

Where is Juninho? Does anyone actually know what on Earth is going on with this character? Answers on a postcard please.

On another day, we would have buried all of our chances and won the game comfortably. But our problem lies in the defence, which need a good shake before AC Milan come calling.

So the chase is on, and hopefully we can put in some better performances in the near future than that shambles today. We do not deserve to be top of the league but I believe Martin will sort our team out and we will fight until the end.

Celtic:
Hedman, McNamara, Valgaeren, Balde, Agathe, Lennon, Petrov, Pearson, McGeady, Camara, Hartson

Come On The Hoops Man Of The Match: Stephen Pearson

Come On The Hoops Moment To Remember: Pearson's satisfying performance.

Come On The Hoops Moment To Forget: The state of our defence. Shambolic.
