Celtic made it a rapturous 8-1 as the home side took out its frustrations from recent results against the hapless FK Suduva.

Henrik Larsson was Celtic's man of the match as he snatched a hat-trick in the opening half-hour to end his recent bad spell in front of goal.

The home team were five ahead by the interval and although they added only a further three goals in the second half, it could have been double figures as Celtic also hit the woodwork three times.

After passing up two early chances, Larsson finally struck to shoot high into the net after Mo Sylla had created the chance with some good work on the right wing.

The striker then glanced home a Steve Guppy free-kick before Stilian Petrov scored a stunning goal when he volleyed home from 18 yards.

By this stage Celtic were scoring almost at will and Larsson wrapped up his hat-trick when he coolly lifted the ball over the keeper despite a desperate attempt at a goalline clearance.

The home side made it five after only 35 minutes when Chris Sutton finished a flowing move involving Guppy and Larsson with a close-range shot.

There was no respite for the visitors after the break. Their keeper did well to parry out a powerful Larsson free-kick only to see Paul Lambert head home a rare goal.

Celtic manager Martin O'Neill then took the opportunity to send on three substitutes in the 60th minute and John Hartson was twice unlucky to see his efforts strike the woodwork before finally getting his reward when he skilfully finished off a Petrov pass.

Joos Valgaeren completed the Celtic scoring with a header from a Hartson cross before the visitors scored a late consolation goal through Tomas Radzinevicius to take something from the torrid evening
