Celtic 4-2 Kilmarnock

Celtic got back to winning ways yesterday, with a 4-2 win over Kilmarnock at Celtic Park. Shunsuke Nakamura, Shaun Maloney, Stephen McManus and Maciej Zurawski scored the goals for The Hoops.

After last week's shambolic show at Clyde, it was important we got a win in the bag and stop any worries of a bad spell or something similar. We got the win and we got the goals, but the defence is still a massive problem.

Roy Keane started the game at centre-half, alongside Stephen McManus. Du Wei was nowhere to be seen after his horror-show at Broadwood last week. Yesterday's game showed us that Keane is not a defender, he is a midfielder, and playing him anywhere else is a complete waste. Keane was at fault for Kilmarnock's second goal, and McManus gave away the penalty for their first.

Trying out new things in defence is not the answer. We need defenders and we need defenders fast. We are in a very comfortable position at the top of the SPL, but I suggest we need a full new back line before the start of next season.

Congratulations to the Jungle Bhoys, who organised a fine display welcoming Roy Keane to Celtic Park. The atmosphere at the beginning of the game was good, and the team were palying very well in the first quarter of the game.

It didn't take long for Celtic to open the scoring. Stan Petrov, returning from injury, was brought down about 25 yards from goal. Step forward Shunsuke Nakamura, who expertly struck the free-kick into the visitors' net, with only 3 minutes gone.

Celtic were playing some neat stuff and after a good move, Petrov was fouled inside the Killie box and won a penalty. The crowd chanted Roy Keane's name in anticipation but it was Shaun Maloney who struck to double Celtic's lead.

Many times this season, our problem has been starting games slowly and going behind early. Yesterday, it was good to get a two goal lead so early, but in true Celtic fashion, the team almost blew it.

Stephen McManus made a crazy lunging challenge inside the Celtic area midway through the first half, and Kilmarnock grabbed a goal back from the resulting penalty. It was a stupid foul by McManus and it allowed Kilmarnock to get back into a game they were very much out of at that point.

In the second half, Celtic looked shaky and Kilmarnock attacked. On 51 minutes, Roy Keane was caught dribbling deep into his own half at the touchline, he lost possession to Naismith, whose cross was headed home by Invincible at the back post.

Invincible had an easy header as he was up against Ross Wallace at Celtic's left-back position. Wallace is far too small to be playing there, this has been evident since he was thrown in at the position several weeks ago. Why Strachan persists with him at left-back I really do not know.

After the equaliser, Celts began to warm-up again, and only a couple of minutes later, from a corner, Celtic went into the lead again. The Killie goalkeeper failed to hold onto the ball and it was stabbed home by Stephen McManus.

Maciej Zurawski added Celtic's fourth, and killed the game.  Killie disputed that the ball was not over the line, though it does appear that the linesman and referee got it right.

So with Hearts and Rangers both winning their games this weekend, we still stay seven clear at the top.  The defence is a cause for concern and it also appears to be affecting Artur Boruc, who is looking poor at crossed balls.  Something for the 'keeper to work on.
