Celtic 3-0 Motherwell

Last updated : 20 September 2003 By Kevin Smith
Second half goals from Henrik Larsson, Chris Sutton and Shaun Maloney brought home 3 points against Motherwell, at Parkhead today.

Momo Sylla replaced the suspended Didier Agathe and Chris Sutton retuurned after a 5 game suspension. Otherwise, it was the same team who played against Bayern in midweek.

To begin with, Celtic looked tired and uninterested but a wacky decision by referee Ian Brines upped the tempo of the match.

Henrik Larsson, through on goalkeeper Gordan Marshall, was brought down when he was just about to slot the ball home. The referee raced towards the incident and astonishingly booked Larsson for diving. It was an absoloutley terrbile decision by the new referee, who is obviously trying to make a name for himself.

Celtic should have had a penalty but went in 0-0 at half time.

Birthday Bhoy Larsson, was quick to shut the referee up after the restart. A great cross from Alan Thompson was headed home by the King of Kings.

Motherwell failed to take a couple of half decent chances to level the game, and it wasn't long before the game was dead and buried. Chris Sutton slotted homt Marshall to make it 2-0.

Shaun Maloney, on as a substitute for John Hartson, buried a free-kick from the corner of the 18-yard box, to make it 3-0.

The game was then played out with no real pace or fluency.

Next up are Hibs at Easter Road, a week today.
