Celtic 2-0 Lyon

Second half goals from Liam Miller and Chris Sutton secured a memorable 3 Champions League points for Celtic tonight.

Every player was superb as the Parkhead crowd spurred the Hooped Heroes on to victory against Lyon of France.

The atmosphere before the game was unbelievable, the fans and players were up for it from the start.

From the beginning of the match, it looked an even contest, Lyon showed how good a passing side they were, but never really threatened in the last third.

In the early stages of the game, Celtic dominated the chances, John Hartson was denied a penalty and Alan Thompson's left-footed drive was deflected over the bar.

Chris Sutton spurned a wonderful opportunity to take the lead, he connected with Didier Agathe's cross but hit the shot a couple of yards over the bar.

Celtic were awarded a penalty on 39 minutes, when Henrik Larsson was tripped inside the box. Alan Thompson stepped up to take the penalty, but with a mixture of Elber winding Thommo up, and the Lyon goalkeeper 2 yards off his line, Thommo missed the penalty. In truth it was a poor penalty, but also a good save by the 'keeper.

The half time score was 0-0, but Celtic emerged from the dressing room a more hungry side for the second period.

Two early saves from the Lyon goalkeeper from John Hartson and Henrik Larsson showed Celtic's determination for a goal, but it was with Martin O'Neill's move to substitute John Hartson for Liam Miller on 65 minutes when Celtic started to put on the show.

Five minutes later, Celtic completed a superb passing move with a headed goal by Liam Miller.  The outstanding Henrik Larsson crossed a great ball, which was met by the head of young Miller, into the corner of the net.  Celtic Park went wild, and the fans were hungry for more.

The fans' appetite was satisfied 9 minutes later, when Larsson again crossed for Chris Sutton, who headed the ball  in an identical manner as Miller's.

It was no more than Celtic deserved, and with Bayern Munich drawing 1-1 with Anderlecht, it puts Celtic 2nd in Group A.

A decent night overall, bring on the Rangers!
