Celtic 0-1 AS Roma

It was a spirited performance by Celtic, but in the end, Roma ran out 1-0 winners. Francesco Totti scored the only goal of the game; a header on 25 minutes.

Celtic's massive support in this city was shown, out of a crowd of over 50,000 at least 30,000 were Celtic fans.

David Marshall made a top save early in the game, but was sure at fault for Roma's goal. Also to blame, was Stan Varga, who was caught in possession and his Italian counterpart crossed for Totti to head home.

Unlike recent American games, Celtic did not put their heads down. Arguably, last night's game was the best Celtic played over the American tour, despite being the final of the four games in eight days.

Aiden McGeady was showing signs of his potential, and the Roma players did not seem to know what to do about the youngster. His cross just before half time was headed towards goal by Chris Sutton, but the ball creeped only inches over the bar. McGeady was involved again only a minute later, and God only knows how a combination of John Hartson and Bobo Balde didn't find the net.

For the first time in America, Celtic did not make any half time substitutions.

In the second period, Roma played a traditional Italian game - defensive and boring. Celts found it hard to break through and only managed to conjure up a couple of half-chances.

Despite the defeat, Celtic played well. McGeady and Ross Wallace played excellent - it will be interesting to see them let loose together this season in the SPL.

Next up are Newcastle United on Wednesday night, at Celtic Park.
