The hurt continues

10 April 2010 050So that's that then. The end of the season of disappointment. No last hurrah to whet the appetite for the end of the season games. We should not be like Hearts or Hibs being content with reaching the top six. The players we have let us down - badly - yesterday and they effectively pulled down the curtain till next season. Will Neil Lennon be able to motivate them to at least play the post-split games without losing? They face Hibs on Saturday but will they be able to beat a team which is suffering a slump which allowed them to be dumped 4-1 yesterday by Hamilton? There is nothing guaranteed as John Hughes will have them fired up for the game in the same way Ross County were yesterday. If teams see how the Hoops can be hounded out of a game, as Ross County did at Hampden, who knows how many more points will be gathered.

Another black Sunday to suffer with the realisation that there are still plenty of people to meet who will delight in reminding you of yesterday's score. As if you needed reminding. Lennon will not need reminding. He was honest with his post-match assessment of the game and display by his side. Whether the board will have listened to a Celtic man hurting in a dignified way is another matter. He saw what was happening in the sunshine but must also have spotted the dark clouds surrounding his chances of getting another season - and an all important pre-season - to steer Celtic to less turbulent waters. Boards like clubs to win things and the Celtic board are no different. They may have another list of managers-in-waiting to be dusted off in the event of things going wrong. Who would they bring in - who would come - answers on a postcard please
