Strachan-I Will Not Alter My System for One Player

Gordon Strachan has today revealed just why Thomas Gravesen does not have a Celtic future - because the Danish player is not 'suited' to the Managers style of play.

This is indeed a watered down appraisal designed to ensure that clubs tempted to take a punt on the former Everton and Real Madrid midfielder are not put off by the fact that the folically-challenged player is either unable or unwilling to follow his managers instructions.

I spoke to Thomas and told him he won't play for us because of the system we play," Strachan said of the conversation with the player.

"We tried our best to get a system which suited Thomas and it hasn't worked. It was the system to blame, not the player or the club.

"He would rather play in a system that suits him and we can't change our style of play to suit one player.

"Thomas has been good about it and understands the situation. It's a football thing and not a personal issue."

This should at least ensure that the split between the high-profile Gravesen and the Club should be as amicable and as swift as possible. This is an unfortunate end to the affable Dane's Celtic career. I for one still cant believe that the player was not a bigger hit during his spell with the club, such was the undoubted talent that he has for cultured and refined midfield play. The only problem is that he is only talented when he or the team are in possession of the ball. When we are not in position he looks like a headless chicken playing musical chairs on speed. If being a midfielder was all about tiring yourself out in a frantic version of pig-in-the-middle then our Thomas would be champion of the universe!

We hope you find a new club soon Thomas, thanks for your efforts.

Yours in Celtic
