Strachan Dismisses Conspiracy Talk - Or Does He?

Last updated : 02 May 2009 By Clydebuilt
Gordon Strachan has spoken out on the furore relating to the SPL post split fixtures and confirms that he has spoken to the SPL beaks about the scheduling.

He said tactfully: "We welcome the challenge, we really do. I like the split because if you win those five games after it comes then you fully deserve to win the league."

However Strachans tone changed when he spoke of a conversation between him and the secretary of the SPL.

"I spoke to Ian Blair from the SPL about the fixtures and he explained to me it's hard to come up with a solution that keeps everybody happy. I can understand that.

"It didn't worry me when the post-split fixtures came out and it doesn't now."

However the Ginger Genius did reveal one aspect of the business that has left him bemused by the whole process - the fact that the two Jimmy's from Aberdeen told him after Celtic's recent 2-0 victory over Aberdeen at Parkhead that Celtic would be visiting Pittodrie today - a whole 24 hours before the split fixtures were announced!

"I've no idea how they knew and it did strike me as strange at the time but it's a hard job for the SPL, isn't it ? Said Strachan without a hint of cynicism.

"Any team that can win all five games to come will be champs and deserves to be."

Lets do it then! Starting with Aberdeen we have five Cup Finals ahead of us!

Yours in Celtic
