SPL SPLIT - OFFICIAL RESPONSE FROM CELTIC

Last updated : 16 April 2002 By
"Celtic attended the SPL General Meeting this morning and participated in constructive discussions regarding future broadcast contracts. Further offers of interest had been made available which indicates that live televised Scottish football could be available next season. The meeting was positive and clarification was obtained in relation to certain reservations previously expressed. A positive outcome looked likely.

"However, following an adjournment of this morning's General Meeting, Celtic
was extremely disappointed to be advised by Chris Robinson of Hearts that
the ten non-Old Firm clubs intend to formally notify the SPL of their
intention to resign. The ten clubs put forward proposals for a new breakaway
league with a revised income distribution and voting structure.

"Despite agreement on the current SPL voting structure being in place for
the last four years and agreement on the distribution model being in place
since last August, both Old Firm clubs were prepared to progress discussions
on these matters within the existing SPL. Somewhat disappointingly, the ten
clubs elected to disregard this and continue with their resignation action."
