News reaches us today that RFC will seek redress from a Glasgow man who invaded the pitch during the UEFA cup-tie against Maccabi Haifa.

A PROTESTER who invaded the pitch during a Rangers match and shouted sectarian abuse at home supporters faces a £4,200 compensation bill from the club.

Sean Gallagher, 21, ran on to the Ibrox pitch during November's UEFA Cup tie against the Israeli side Maccabi Haifa.

He wore a Palestinian flag and a T-shirt with a picture of the Pope.

The match, which was being broadcast live on BBC TV, had to be halted after he tried to handcuff himself to the goalposts.

As he was led away he taunted Rangers fans, shouting in Gaelic "tiocfaidh ar la" - "our day will come" - an IRA slogan.

At Glasgow's sheriff court, Gallagher, from Glasgow, yesterday pleaded guilty to religiously aggravated breach of the peace.

Solicitor Ross Yuill told the court: "He has suffered death threats."

Rangers, fined £4,212 by UEFA following the game on 2 November, is seeking compensation for the loss, fiscal John Bedford told the court.

Gallagher will be sentenced next month.

So will Rangers attempt to seek redress for losses incurred by the behaviour of their own fans also? Have Rangers set themselves a dangerous precedent that they have no intention of keeping?
