Poles apart at Celtic? Monday’s Transfer talk.

Celtic are closing in on a deal to sign Polish international left-back Seweryn Gancarczyk.

The 26-year-old arrived in Glasgow on Saturday after his club, Metalist Kharkiv gave him permission to talk to Celtic. Capped three times for his country and a non-playing member of Poland's World Cup squad in 2006, Gancarczyk will train at Lennoxtown this week with a view to proving he can win a £750,000 switch to the SPL.

It is understood that the player was spotted by Celtic scouts during the UEFA cup tie with Everton earlier this season and the Polish press has been linking him ever since. We understand that Celtic have first option to sign the rated Fullback ahead of Birmingham.

As one Pole prepares to check in at Parkhead this week, the exit door looms once again for striker Maciej Zurawski. The 31-year-old hopes to secure a transfer out of Scotland after seeing a move to LA Galaxy fall through. The Americans baulked at a near £1million asking price, while Columbus Crew are the latest MLS side to show an interest.

Former Everton striker Robert Warzycha is assistant coach at Columbus and has set his heart on adding a fellow countryman to his squad. "Maciej is determined to change club," said Warzycha. "He really wants to play in Euro 2008. I talked with him several times and I've told him about the footballing philosophy of our coach Sigi Schmid.

"There are some financial facts to be sorted out but that's not my job."

So it would appear that Strachan was attempting to throw the press hounds off the trail last week with his comments regarding how many more signings he would make before the end of the window. Well heres hoping!
