Tony Mowbray has today commented on Celtic’s ability to find the consistency required to win the SPL title and he fully feels that the team can reach the levels expected of them.

Mowbray’s assertion is that the different styles of play required to meet the demands of European football one week and SPL action the next has led to a necessary confusion in both players roles and indeed in the personnel selected.

Could it be that this lack of a consistent approach has contributed to the inconsistency that has been on display this season?

"I strongly believe our team can only get better.”

"Because of the nature of the games we've played, in the Europa League and in Scotland, we are presented with a different situation where we have to be more defensive or organised and then return to Scotland and get our expansive game going again.

"It's getting that balance right and consistently picking the right players to get the job done.

"But the big benefit for us is that, after this international break, the players will all know who is going to the World Cup.

"The breaks will be less intense and less frequent, and, hopefully, we'll be able to build up a head of steam and find a formula that works."

Hopefully we will Tony, we need to find some level of consistency. Partnerships need to be formed and I for one would be happy if you set your default squad and system now and stuck to it for both domestic and Europa League games. We are a team in transition and the SPL matters more that Europe.

Meanwhile Celtic Legend Billy McNeill has spoken out in defence of the much-maligned Centre Backs, stating that on their day they are talented footballers. However they never seem to be on their day at the same time

"He is possibly still working on things," said the Celtic legend.

"He hasn't been at the club all that long and there will be a lot of things he is not content with and a lot of things he will be enjoying.

"The centre-backs, for me, have been good performers at different times. They are maybe just going through a difficult patch at the moment. But they are players with ability."

Yours in Celtic
