Rumours of a rift between manager Strachan and last years Player of the Year Aiden McGeady have been circulating since August but the alleged clash between them on Saturday is said to have been the most severe yet. If this latest rumour is true then the likeliest outcome will be Aiden leaving the club in January.

There will be no shortage of suitors for McGeady and according to reports Celtic recently turned down a significant offer from a top European side, thought to be Bayern Munich, and with many English Premier League clubs also said to be waiting in the wings it's looking grim from a Celtic supporters outlook.

Today's Herald quoted a source inside the Celtic dressing room as saying that Strachan confronted McGeady over the winger's display "Aiden took the criticism for some time but then hit back" he said anonymously "The manager seemed to be blaming Aiden for the defeat. Aiden was quiet but as the manager went on he let him have it. He didn't hold back."

The Herald then said "It is understood that Peter Lawwell, the Celtic chief executive, has been informed of the breach between player and manager and will advise board members today of the depth of the rift. Sources close to the player believe they will have to back Strachan, paving the way for the 22-year-old to leave the club he joined as a schoolboy."

David Holbrook, who represents the Irish international, denied that any incident had taken place "I'm very close with Aiden and his father," said the agent "And, believe me, if there had been any major incident over the weekend, I would know about it. Neither Aiden, or his dad, have been in contact."
