The Light Blues failed to find the back of the net at Montrose though McCoist's side clinched the Irn-Bru Third Division title after nearest rivals Queen's Park lost their game against Elgin City. But he voiced his concerns about a lack of personnel at his disposal, with a lack of cutting edge up front being particularly evident at Links Park.
A transfer embargo means Rangers can register free agents from September 1 and buy new players in January next year, and McCoist said: "We need players, it's as simple as that. We need players in all areas for next season. I said at the start of the season that we were well short and we didn't get enough players in."
He added: "The players are doing their best and they are giving the supporters absolutely everything they have, which is fantastic. But they need help and we need more bodies.
"We've got a good squad of boys in there who are giving us everything but we definitely need bodies. We've had a tough time with injuries, like everyone has, but we need bodies in all positions to help us for next season."
Andy Little is injured and Francisco Sandaza is currently suspended by the club, meaning youngster Kane Hemmings was tasked with leading the line for a second week in a row.
McCoist added: "I'll start with the positives. It's another clean sheet, the third clean sheet in a row, which is encouraging. But I think we can all see we are not nearly doing well enough in forward areas in terms of our creation and our finishing.
"We are well short in forward areas but I can understand the reasons why are well short and it's just due to the lack of personnel.
"With the greatest of respect to Kane, we don't really have a centre-forward on our books at the moment who can play. I can hear people shouting 'play a 4-4-2' but if you've not got two centre-forwards it's very difficult so you have to try to attack from other areas.
"We can all see what's happening, there is no real zip or probing or class, actually, in the forward areas and I think that's evident for everybody to see."
