Tony Mowbray has reported that Celtic are close to having a fully fit squad as long term crocks Stephen McManus and Barry Robson returned to full training.

"We have pretty much a clean bill of health now, Stephen and Barry are back out on the training pitch now but won't be ready for Saturday. How far away are they? They are pretty close now, but we have to remember they have been out for a long time.

"Stephen played 75 minutes of a closed-doors game against Blackburn this week and we're hoping to get Barry a game at some point next week. They are both feeling okay at the moment.

"I've spoken to Stephen and told him that, with the injury, he has to look after his career first and foremost. He's training hard and is desperate to get himself back into contention.

"He's been doing a lot of work on his own, as well as the group training, and we'll get him another closed-doors game next week. After that, he won't be too far away."

Mowbray has also stated that the players have shown no signs of either mental or physical fatigue after Tuesday night's energy sapping defeat at the hands of Arsenal.

He said: "The players know that for large spells of the game, they more than held their own against a team who could realistically win the UEFA Champions League. Arsenal are a top side.

"I think the players took a lot out of the game. We were disappointed at the nature of the goals we lost, but we took some positives out of a game against a top, top side."

He said: "I've said from day one that we have an exceptional group of players, with a very strong mentality. We know the demands of the SPL. The players are very focused and know that we have to win league games.

Mowbray would not be drawn on the second leg of the tie against Arsenal, instead choosing to talk about today's game against the Saints.

He said: "We finish one game and focus on the next. We won't talk about Arsenal until after St Johnstone, but hopefully we have a positive result to take us into Wednesday's match"

"A new team to the SPL always gets an extra yard when they come to Celtic Park. It's why they strived so hard to win the First Division and this will be a big game for the St Johnstone players.

"We have to make sure that we match that effort and commitment and hope that bit of talent can pay dividends and help them win the game. We have to be on our guard and we have to make sure we are fully focused and concentrated."

Yours in Celtic
