Heid's Player of the Year Award Does Little to Soothe Ibrox Pain.

I know what you are thinking, there is nothing that can soothe Ibrox pain, such is the magnitude of the disappointment felt at not winning a game that we dominated in terms of possession and attempts on goal.

Leaving that aside for a moment to concentrate on the positives, it has been announced that Gary Caldwell is the Football Writers Player of the Year.

The Scotland defender said: "I think I can still improve. I feel as fit as I've ever felt."

"They do say that, nearer to 30, as a centre-back, the experience you've gained over the years can help you,"

"I feel I've got better every year and that's what you have to do."

"This is the challenge I have - not to make any mistakes and remain true to myself as a ball-playing centre-half but cut out the small mistakes that were maybe stopping me from winning trophies and playing in big games. I think I've done that."

Now back to the horror show that was yesterday's match. Firstly have you ever seen so many Rangers Tops on display on a Sunday morning, although most of them seem to have some reference to Celtic printed on the rear, usually a reference to a certain Asian player consuming their canine!

The Fools should realise that their casual racism is misdirected, as it is in Korea that dog is considered a delicacy, still as we have discovered before, there is no educating these idiots.

A quick scan of the papers this morning will reveal comment after comment from ex players and pundits queuing up to stick the knife into Gordon Strachan, Andreas Hinkel or any other person directly related to yesterdays defeat.

Whilst in hindsight it is easy to say that McGeady would have tracked Davis more competently, that Maloney was not match fit or that Hinkel should have dealt with the fact of the matter is that we did enough to win that game yesterday, we just couldn't care out a decent enough opportunity.

When we did actually manage this, we either shot wide or tamely, or were incorrectly ruled offside. Although in fairness when Samaras was incorrectly flagged offside he did his usual trick off falling over his own feet.

One criticism I will offer is to the front pairing of Jan and Skippy.

There were at least five occasions yesterday afternoon when the wide players managed to supply quality crosses to the back post, but for some reason both our forwards were more concerned with tussling with the two centre defenders? I am all for forwards hustling defenders but one of them has to take a gamble and find space rather than out tussle Weir and Bougherra.

This appeared to be a theme right across the squad yesterday with two Celtic players challenging for every high ball, indeed Rangers goal came when Kenny Miller got the break of the ball after both Loovens and Hartley went for the same ball, thus meaning that big Glenn was out of position when Miller supplied the pass.

Anyone who had watched Rangers victory over Hearts last weekend would have seen this type of move come to fruition when Boyd scored last Sunday. Maybe Strachan should have shown this video to the defence?

So now we find ourselves two points adrift with three games to play. The fact that we have two home games and a superior goal difference leaves me feeling a little more optimistic than I maybe should be, but we have nothing to lose now.

Could Hibs do us a wee favour on Tuesday? This is not over yet!

Keep the faith

Yours in Celtic
