Hartson has been out for several weeks due to a continuing back injury, but made the substitutes bench on Thursday night. By Friday he was ruled out of the Livingston game on Sunday, and it was confirmed today that he will be forced to undergo surgery on his back, ruling him out for around four months.
The injury is similar to the one which ruled him out of the UEFA Cup Final last season, and will be heartbreaking news for the big Welshman, who has scored 10 goals this season.
With Hartson sidelined alongside Shaun Maloney, Celtic will probably have to recall David Fernandez from his loan spell at Livingston, as we do not have good enough cover for Larsson and Sutton.
