Gary Caldwell Signed On Pre-Contract

Celtic today confirmed the signing of Hibs Captain Gary Caldwell on a pre-contract agreement. He will arrive in the summer, on a three year deal, with the option of another year beyond that.

It was only a matter of time before the signing was confirmed, with talk of the signing doing the rounds for several months. Caldwell was booed last week by the Hibs support - what a bunch of jokers - but he will continue on at Easter Road until the end of the current season.

Gordon Strachan commented on the signing of the 23 year old defender today, saying, "Gary Caldwell will be coming here this summer.

"The one thing about these guys is that they were honest about it and wanted to come out in the open and say: ‘Hey, this is what’s happening.’ Previously, people might have signed and not told anybody, but I don’t think that’s right.

"These lads have come out in the open, said that, yes, we’re going to Celtic, but we still want to do our jobs properly for the clubs we’re at. The players aren’t doing anything wrong."

Well done to Celtic for another pre-contract signing, which will no doubt tighten up the defence. Pity we couldn't have him for Sunday.
