Could Roberto Martinez be the Next Celtic Manager?

Last updated : 01 June 2009 By Clydebuilt
Swansea have been contacted by Celtic to request permission to talk their Manager, Roberto Martinez. The Spanish Coach, 34 who was on the books at Motherwell at the turn of the century has been approached with a view to taking up the reins at Celtic.

This has been confirmed by the Swansea, although Celtic are yet to comment on the approach

"I had a call off their chief executive (Peter Lawwell) making me aware that they'd like to talk to Roberto," Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins told BBC Wales.

"Like I've always done I refused that until I've spoken to Roberto myself and talked things through

Martinez is best known for being part of the Spanish contingent that helped Wigan to the division three title before moving to Swansea, Captaining them to League two promotion in 2006.

Whilst Martinez's success at Swansea has made him one of British Footballs up and coming managers, he is hardly the big name that most Celtic fans would expect.

Hmmm.
