Celts in Positive Start to Preseason Shock

Well who could have predicted that then? In years gone by Celtic have been faced with lesser opposition than last nights defeated team and failed to score, let alone register a goal, which of course has led to the usual reaction of cracked crests in the red tops.

So what can we take from last nights result? Well nothing really as these preseason games are not an indictor of how a team will perform come the start of the season but it is unusual for Celtic to score a goal so early in preseason never mind score a couple and actually win the match.

One is almost tempted to be slightly concerned by last night's performance. Normally we play terribly in preseason and go on to win the league so what omens should we derive from last nights result? Will we prevail as normal or will last nights result buck the trend?

Again it doesn't really matter. Preseason games are a means to an end, even a child knows that they are designed for the players to get match sharpness and for the manager to experiment with formations etc, but that still does not prevent the gutter press from reacting to friendly defeats as an end of the world-type event.

One particular bastion of truth with a social conscience strong enough to ensure that it always reports the truth has today warned Celtic fans not to get carried away with one good preseason result. So Mr Erroneous of Keevins, why does the paper that allows you to use its crayons normally have headlines relating to a "Celtic crisis" each summer?

There were more than a few reasons to be cheerful based on last nights performance, the main one being the sparkling performance of young Paul Caddis. Whether deployed at right back or right midfield the young player showed why he is one of the hottest prospects in Scottish football around. Keep up the good work Paul.

So all in all it was a fine performance, but as the previous paragraphs state there is no need to get carried away quite yet!

Yours in Celtic
