Celtic 3 Brisbane Roar 0! Get it Right Up Ye Charlie Miller

As I raised my weary head this morning and turned on my computer to see what result had befallen Celtic in their game it was with a large portion of glee that I saw that the Bhoys had categorically destroyed the Brisbane outfit.

Now not that I have anything against the Aussie team, nor do I have any hatred for any of the ex Rangers players who ply their trade there. However the comments from Charlie Miller about wanting to beat Celtic on the twelfth of July wearing an orange strip piqued my interest in this game.

Generally I couldn't give a toss about anything to do with this day of the year, I think it says a lot about those who still feel the need to celebrate an event that happened over three hundred years ago. Furthermore to visualise the playing of a football team that you ignorantly assume is the modern-day equivalent of King James' Catholic Army says that you really are a few snags short of a Barbie mate.

So Celtic went about their task well in what was an entertaining pre season friendly. Mowbray set Celtic out in a standard 4-4-2 Formation with Boruc in goal, a back four of Naylor, Loovens, Caldwell and Hinkel. Midfield heralded surprise starts for Koki Mizuno and Willo Flood alongside Maloney and Crosas and Captain for the day Scott McDonald was partnered up front by Chris Killen.

Brisbane Roar started the game the more brightly, with Artur Boruc having to be in fine form to keep them out in the early stages, but Crosas and the excellent Willo flood started to add their influence to the game as Celtic finally started to waken up to the challenge.

Shaun Maloney, Chris Killen and Koki Mizuno all tested the Roar defence and the game looked as though it was heading for a scoreless first half until Chris Killen managed to convert a Lee Naylor cross (not a sentence you read very often) after the English full back was expertly found by a great sweeping pass from Willo Flood.

Not content with a one goal lead at half time, it took Celtic only another 120 seconds to add a second goal as Killen again found the back of the net. It was another fine example of good attacking football as Paddy McCourt and Shaun Maloney conspired to link up to release Killen, with Maloney playing a sublime reverse pass one-two with the big Kiwi striker.

The icing was added to the cake on the 50th minute as Koki Mizuno got on the end of a Andy Hinkel cross after the Japanese forward replaced Paddy McCourt in the second half.

Those in attendance also got a chance to see new signing Fortune as he was introduced to the action replacing Scott McDonald in the second half.

A good result at this stage of pre season.

Yours in Celtic
