Celtic 1 Manchester United 1

Celtic managed to hold on to a one-goal advantage until the 83rd minute at Celtic Park. Scott McDonald opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a cracking lob over Ben Foster. Celtic battled and battled for most of the game but could do little to stop Ryan Giggs equaliser after Artur Boruc could only palm out Ronaldo's shot.

Celtic's first half performance was excellent, hassling and harrying Manchester United out of possession and giving the European Champions no time or space on the ball. Celtic sought out to narrow the game and allow Man U all the space they wanted in the wide areas to allow the Brown and Hartley to hassle the central areas.

The second half however was a different story as Celtic embarrassingly tried to stop playing football and baton down the hatches with a defensive line of 5 players supplemented by two defensive midfielders trying everything they could to keep United at bay, rather than trying to play the game.

It was a great team performance, with the Centre Half pairing of Caldwell and McManus earning the greatest plaudits alongside the energetic and tireless Scot Brown who did everything he could to help out his team.

There was not much that could be done about United's goal, although it could be argued that if Boruc could get two hands to the shot he could have possibly directed it over the bar and United got the draw that their overall play deserved.

The Norwegian ref handled the game relatively well, although how Ronaldo got away with his assault on Scott Brown or his waving of an imaginary card is beyond me.

The news that Aalborg got a draw at Villarreall does little to change the situation that Celtic finds themselves in. Gaining more points than Aalborg in our final two matches is all Celtic can hope for now.

Yours in Celtic
